NEWS // 3View Freeview HD Box PVR

A while back we announced that 3View would be releasing a Freeview HD Box and now we've got all the details for you. We've just had an exclusive briefing from 3View about their first Freeview HD box PVR which they will release in the UK.3View Freeview HD Box PVR Logo

3View are a relatively new British start-up company, and they are looking to make an impact in the Freeview HD Box areana with their new offering. You can now pre-order the 3View Freeview HD Box PVR from the official 3View website at a cost of £299. This is currently the only place to order a 3View Freeview HD Box + PVR and it is hoped that they will be delivered before the end of May 2010. Initially the 3View Freeview HD Box PVR will only be sold online so you won't be able to get it on the high street but 3View hopes to strike deals with some of the major retailers like Asda,Tesco and Best Buy to distribute the box. 3View Freeview HD Box PVR

What is the benefit of the Freeview HD Box over other Freeview HD Boxes? The secret is the PVR.. also known as personal video recorder. This particular Freeview HD box is much more clever than the standard Freeview HD Receiver. The 3View Freeview PVR has a in-built 500GB memory in the form of a hard drive. T^his is used for recording all your favourite programs. It has a Ethernet port and can be connected to the internet via a wireless connection (using a USB dongle). This gives you unlimited internet access and to make it even easier the 3View PVR Box comes with apps for watching YouTube, browing on Facebook and Twitter already installed and has all the benefits of a Freeview HD twin tuner.

News // Linsar FHD1 Freeview HD Box Released

Linsar FHD1 Freeview HD Box Linsar have released their first Freeview HD Box - Known as the Linsar FHD1. Retailing at under £150 this is one of the cheapest Freeview HD Boxes on the market. Linsar are promoting the Linsar FHD1 Freeview HD Box as "the UK's first affordable T2 Freeview HD set top box".

This is a slightly odd claim as we have already seen a Bush Freeview HD box currently available at Argos for less at only £100. Therefore its a claim that the Linsar FHD1 is not really going to live up to. However it is a lower-price Freeview HD Box if you want to get those free high definition channels.

News // Freeview HD Channels now available in Birmingham, Cardiff and Leeds

The official Freeview website have announced that the Freeview HD Channels are now being transmitted and are available to households in Leeds, Birmingham and Cardiff. This adds to the existing London and Manchester areas which began transmitting at the start of the year. This announcement of 3 new cities adds around 4.5 million people to the list of people who can enjoy watching stunning High Definition channles over the digital terrestrial television network (or through your standard tv aerial) free of charge.

If you want to receive the new Freeview HD Channels you will require a compatible HD Freeview Box (Check out our reviews of the latest HD Freeview Boxes and Freeview HD TV's. Of course there is no point buying a HD Freeview Box if you don't have a HD Ready TV as you wont be able to view the HD Channles anyway (just wanted to point that out!). If you don't already have an HD Ready or Full HD TV, instead of buying a separate TV and HD Freeview Box, both Panasonic and Sony have released a new plasma and LCD TV set with a built-in HD Freeview Receiver which starts at just under £600 for a the Sony Bravia KDL37EX403U 37" LCD TV.

In addition the official Freeview HD site have started advertising the new Freeview HD service on UK TV Channels. It is believed that Freeview HD have been waiting until the first Freeview HD Box has been tried and tested before starting the push the new Freeview HD service. News // Freeview HD Box vs YouView Box

Within the last week, project canvas has been officially named 'YouView'. This is the new IPTV service that is backed by the BBC, ITV, Five, Channel 4, Talk Talk and BT. Don't worry, your Freeview HD Box will not become redundant and the Freeview signal will continue transmitting indefinitely.

Although this has not been officially stated we can be pretty sure of it as the YouView Box will still use the Freeview transmission signal to display live TV to viewers. The only time the YouView box doesn't is when viewers watch previous TV at which point it is pulled in via a broadband connection. The first Freeview HD Box Recorder (aka Freeview HD Box + Recorder) has now been announced and will shortly be in the shops. A Freeview HD Recorder is basiclly a Freeview HD Box that has the ability to record and save programs onto a internal hard drive. These Freeview HD Recorders will work in a very similar way to Sky+ and Virgin where you can record Freeview HD Channels as well as pausing and rewinding live TV.

The South Korean electronics manufacturer Humax has the HD-T2 Fox's first DVB-T2 receiver announced with. The Freeview HD Box model is to receive HDTV programming, in the new DVB-T2 standard (broadcast terrestrial) and also enable the playback of multimedia files over the network interface (streaming). The built-in into the Freeview box is an upscaler which also guarantees a simple scaling of SDTV material to 1080i. The Freeview HD Box will initially only come to the UK market.

Additional facilities include an electronic program guide (EPG), which should list the TV shows of the next eight days in detail. In addition to conventional two SCART sockets, the receiver also offers an HDMI connector for lossless signal transmission. The USB port on the back are also multimedia files such as DivX or Xvid video, MP3 songs and JPEG photos can be reproduced. A PVR version for TV recordings to follow. Electricity consumption in standby mode according to the manufacturer is less than one watt.

According to a report on Engadget.com to the Humax HD Fox T2 HD Box in the UK are offered from March 2010 already. The price is 170 British pounds (around £195).

The Freeveie Box guarantees compared to DVB-T DVB-T2: About 67 percent more capacity on a TV channel. By using the MPEG-4 instead of MPEG-2 format, capacity can be utilized more efficiently. In this way, the new standard promises enough bandwidth for HDTV signals.

'Official notification from the manufacturer to the HD-Fox T2 is a not yet. According to Engadget, the device will initially only in Britain on the market. At least theoretically, in particular through the receiver like the multimedia playback via USB and network streaming. PVR and DLNA are unfortunately not on board. The terrestrial HDTV reception is certainly an interesting thing in this country but not yet currently possible. Only the Institute for Radio Technology (IRT) in Munich radiates within a few kilometers of test signals, which can be received with appropriate equipment. For example, offers AVerMedia AVerTV Volar Black HD with the A850 an HDTV-enabled DVB-T stick for £33. For £17 more there is also the AirStar TeleStick2 of TechniSat.'
