What is a Freeview HD Recorder?
In simple terms, a Freeview HD Recorder can be thought of as a regular Freeview HD Box with a built in recording function. All Freeview HD Recorders come with an internal hard drive (usually 200GB+) which is used to store your recorded programs on.
The first Freeview HD Recorder will hopefully going to go on sale in April 2010, at which point we will be testing and reviewing them as and when they go on sale. As well as being able to record Freeview HD channels, the boxes will also be abel to record the regular Freeview channels. Depending on the box you choose you may also be able to pause, record, stop and rewind live TV as you are watching it.
We would reccomend buying a box that has a twin tuner built into it. This will allow you to watch one channel whilst recording another. Some Freeview HD Recorders will even allow you to record two different Freeview channels at the same time whilst watching a third! Some of the more advanced recorders will have a "series" recording option availiable so you can record every episode of your favourity TV series at the touch of a button.
Standard Freeview HD Boxes will have the ability to receive all the regular Freeview channels as well as the Freeview-HD ones. It is hoped that they will all have Ethernet and USB posts to enable interactive services when they become availiable.
